– Faulty Driver Air Bag – highly unlikely airbags don’t fail
– Faulty Spiral Cable – most likely
– Driver Air Bag harness is open
– Driver Air Bag circuit poor electrical connection

A diagnostic machine can confirm this issue and the best solution would be to replace the spiral cable.
Solutions for the B1049 code include:
- Replace the airbag sensor: If the sensor is found to be faulty, it will need to be replaced.
- Check and repair the wiring: Any damaged or loose wiring should be repaired or replaced.
In order to diagnose the B1049 code, a professional diagnostic scan tool will be required to read the code and retrieve any additional trouble codes that may be stored in the ECM. Once the code has been diagnosed and the problem has been identified, the appropriate repair can be made to fix the issue.

Before working on the SRS system, ensure the ignition switch is turned off and both battery cables are disconnected. Allow a minimum of 5 – 10 minutes to pass before proceeding with any servicing. During this time, it is possible for the airbag and seat belt pre-tensioner to deploy. It is important to wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before handling any SRS connectors or wires to avoid any potential hazards.
